Dear Pleasant Hill Families:

I think the highlight of the month had to be Veteran’s Day. We collected 400 pounds of candy to send to our troops overseas. In addition, Restor Healing Centre donated $1 for each pound of candy to the People’s Resource Center. As a school, we wrote over 300 letters to soldiers and veterans thanking them for their service and we gathered in the
hallways to say the Pledge of Allegiance and sing a patriotic song.

Thank you to all parents who attended parent-teacher conferences. Although it does make for long days for our teachers, we truly appreciate the commitment to helping us meet your child’s needs. As I’ve said many times, we can’t do it without you.

We practiced our lockdown drill with the help of the Winfield Police Department. The kids and staff did a great job and the officers who assisted were impressed with how well we did.
Thank you to everyone who has been participating in our “Cook’s Night Out” events. It’s a great way to display the kids’ artwork, give the cook in your house a break, and generate money for the PTA. We’re trying to make sure that events like this and all other important information regarding Pleasant Hill is posted to our website (http://pleasanthill.cusd200.org ) in a timely manner.

Studies have shown that students learn better when they eat a breakfast each day. Research shows that test scores go up and behavior problems go down when students eat a good breakfast. Beginning December 1, 2009, we are very excited to be able to offer breakfast in the MPR from 9:00am - 9:10am. Students will use their lunch cards much in the same way they do for lunch. The regular price for breakfast will be $1.25. A reduced-price breakfast will cost $.30. Students who are eligible for free lunches are
qualified for a free breakfast as well. A permission slip and breakfast menu will be sent home soon.

Thanksgiving Break starts this Saturday, November 21st and school resumes on Monday, November 30th.
Our winter concert is on December 14th at 6:30 p.m.
Market day is December 17th.
Winter Break starts on Saturday, December 19th and school resumes on Monday, January 4, 2010.

Have a fun and safe break.

Sincerely,
Ken Bonomo
