Dear Pleasant Hill Families:
As stated in the December and January Newsgrams, District 200 is facing an $8.6 million
deficit for the 2010-2011 school year. District 200 is one of many districts in DuPage
County and across the state facing financial difficulties. In order to be fiscally
responsible, teachers, staff, administrators and the Board of Education are considering
ways to reduce expenditures across the district. While the final decision will not be made
until April, the discussions about what can be cut began in December. The cuts that are
being considered will touch every level of the district and will have an impact on the
educational programs in the district. Current considerations at the elementary level
include increasing class sizes which reduce the number of teachers, restructuring
programs that support the classroom instruction which will eliminate some positions,
reducing stipend positions, eliminating some non-teaching positions, cutting school
supply budgets by 10%, and eliminating professional development not funded by grants.
Similar cuts are being suggested at both the middle and high school levels. In addition,
district level expenditures are being reduced including eliminating several district level
administrative positions. The burden of the reductions is being shared across the district.
If you are interested in learning more about the proposed budget reductions, please visit
the district web page at http://www.cusd200.org. The 2010 Budget Reduction Process
Time Line and Initial Budget Reduction Board Presentation can be accessed on this web
page.
As always, if you have questions and/or concerns you can contact me at kbonomo@cusd200.org .
